【Safety in Cleaning Work】
▫️ When cleaning high places (such as the top of cabinets or the outside of windows), never take the easy way out by standing on a chair! Be sure to use a stable four-legged ladder. When standing on it, keep both feet firmly planted, and don't lean your body out beyond your shoulders; otherwise, it's easy to lose balance and fall! After using the ladder, put it away properly and don't leave it in walkways where it might trip someone.
▫️ When handling strong irritant cleaning agents like bleach or disinfectant, you must wear rubber gloves! If it splashes on your skin, immediately rinse it with plenty of water for at least 5 minutes. Never mix cleaning agents from different brands, especially bleach and toilet cleaner. Mixing them will release toxic chlorine gas, which can cause dizziness and nausea if inhaled in large amounts!
▫️ After using cleaning agents, tighten the bottle caps. Store them in a locked cabinet or a high place out of children's reach, and it's best to label the bottles clearly to indicate what's inside. They must never be placed together with condiments like soy sauce or vinegar. It would be troublesome if you take the wrong one by mistake!
【Kitchen Safety】
▫️ When chopping vegetables, bend your left fingers into a "small hill" shape, with the fingertips pressing against the ingredients. Let the knife slowly cut along the knuckles. Even if the knife slips, it won't easily cut your fingers. After handling raw meat or fish, thoroughly clean the knife and cutting board with hot water and detergent before using them for cooked food; otherwise, bacteria will easily breed.
▫️ Never leave the kitchen while stir-frying or boiling soup! Even if you need to answer a phone call, turn off the fire. Many fires have been caused by soup overflowing from the pot and extinguishing the gas stove. If the oil in the pan catches fire, quickly turn off the heat and then tightly cover the pan with the lid. Never pour water into it, as the oil will splash and spread the fire further!
▫️ When using a microwave for heating, never put metal bowls or plates with gold edges inside, as they will spark and damage the machine. Eggs in their shells or sealed cans can't be heated directly either, as they are prone to exploding! After heating food, don't open it immediately. Wait for 1 minute before opening the lid to avoid hot steam scalding your hands or face.
▫️ Check the gas pipe connections for leaks every week. Put some soapy water in a small bowl, dip a sponge in it, and apply it to the connections. If small bubbles appear, there's a leak! Quickly turn off the main valve, open the windows for ventilation, never turn on the lights or make a phone call, and immediately ask the employer to contact maintenance personnel.
【Laundry and Electrical Appliances】
▫️ Before doing laundry, make sure to turn the pockets inside out and take out coins, keys, lighters, etc. Otherwise, they will scratch the inner barrel of the washing machine or even get stuck in the drum. Separate dark and light-colored clothes for washing to avoid dyeing; don't pour too much laundry detergent, otherwise, foam will overflow from the machine.
▫️ When using an electric iron, always place it on a special ironing board. Don't put it directly on the table or bed, as it may not only burn things but also cause a fire. If you need to leave while ironing, you must turn off the power and place the iron upright. After ironing, let the clothes air out for a while before folding them to avoid a stuffy smell due to high temperature.
▫️ Regularly clean the lint on the filter of the dryer, about every 3 uses. A buildup of lint is very easy to catch fire. When plugging or unplugging electrical appliances, always hold the plug itself, don't pull the wire. Over time, the wire will be torn and expose the copper wire, which is prone to electric shock. Never touch the power switch with wet hands; dry your hands first before operating to be safe.
【Bathroom Safety】
▫️ Before cleaning the bathroom, lay a non-slip mat on the floor, especially in the bathtub and shower area, as the tiles become very slippery when wet. After taking a shower or finishing cleaning, dry the floor with a dry cloth; otherwise, you or your family members may easily slip and get injured.
▫️ There's a lot of moisture in the bathroom, so try not to use electrical appliances like hair dryers or electric blankets. If you really need to use a hair dryer, keep it far away from the shower area and bathtub. After use, immediately unplug it, take it to the living room, and don't leave it in the bathroom.
▫️ When moving heavy objects in the bathroom, such as a bucket full of water or a large bag of laundry detergent, first squat down and stand up using the strength of your legs. Don't bend over and use your waist strength directly, as it's easy to strain your waist.
【Must-Know About Fire Extinguishers】
▫️ Remember where the fire extinguisher is kept at home, usually in easily accessible places like near the kitchen door or in the corner of the living room. Never let it be blocked by debris. When cleaning, don't move it to a corner; otherwise, it will be troublesome if you can't find it in case of a fire. The fire extinguisher should be placed in a dry and ventilated place, away from heat sources like radiators and gas stoves.
▫️ Check the pressure gauge of the fire extinguisher every month. If the pointer is in the green area, it's normal; if it's in the red area, it means the pressure is insufficient and it won't spray out; if it's in the yellow area, the pressure is too high and it may explode. In both these cases, immediately tell the employer to replace it.
▫️ If there's a fire and you need to use the fire extinguisher, remember the four words "lift, pull, hold, press": first lift the fire extinguisher, pull out the safety pin on it, hold the nozzle of the hose with one hand, aim at the root of the flame, press the handle with the other hand, and sweep left and right until the fire is put out. If the fire is too big and you can't control it, don't try to put it out. Quickly take your family members and run out the door, then call the fire department from a safe place.
Housework safety really can't be taken lightly. Even for things that you think "should be fine", you must follow the rules. If there's any operation you don't understand, never figure it out by yourself. Ask the employer immediately and start doing it after you understand clearly. Only in this way can you stay safe. Hope this detailed guide can help everyone!
